Glass making was first introduced to this country by the Romans and over the centuries has grown to make Britain a world leader in the production of high lead crystal.
It was in the early 1800’s however, that this fascinating industry arrived in the small East Staffordshire village of Tutbury which is just outside Burton-on-Trent.
Encouraged by Henry Jackson, who established Tutbury as a hive of glass trading, the factory still operates to this day and is a market leader in its field.
The factory is a stunning old silk mill open to visitors, at no cost, who are encouraged to come and watch the highly skilled glass men at work.
To this day visitors flock to the workshop and the quality of the crystal produced is renowned worldwide.
